National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) is celebrated by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and hundreds of non-profit and for-profit organizations throughout North America. On this special day, we recognize the great philanthropic contributions to the community of philanthropy and those active volunteers who devote their time to advance the efforts of various organizations.
On November 21st at 6pm, we are getting together for National Philanthropy Day! We hope you'll join us at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts as we recognize some outstanding members of our community, enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres, and celebrate philanthropy in the Upstate!

Nomination Information
Who is eligible for a National Philanthropy Day award? All Upstate nonprofits, corporations, foundations, civic and service organizations are invited to nominate their donors, community partners, volunteers, board members, staff members and others for an award appropriate to the categories below.
Who can submit a nomination? An individual, public or private organization, a civic or service group, or any AFP member may submit a nomination for any of the awards listed below. Nominations can be submitted to NPDafppiedmont@gmail.com. The deadline for nominations is August 23, 2024. Please be sure all nominations include nominee name(s) and contact information (address, email and phone number) and nominator name(s) and contact information (address, email and phone number).
Who selects award winners? A National Philanthropy Day committee of the AFP, SC Piedmont Chapter will score each application to identify 2-3 finalists for each category. The finalists will be presented to the AFP, SC Piedmont Chapter Board for final decisions on award recipients.
When will award winners be notified? Award recipients and their nominators will be notified by October 3, 2024. If your nominee is chosen, you and/or your organization agrees to: Work with the honoree to confirm they are willing to accept the award. Be the central point of communications for the honoree with the NPD committee. Participate in the reception event on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024. Each honoree will receive two tickets and the nominating organization will receive two tickets. Participate in a video recording with your honoree to be shown at the event. Help promote the NPD event and the honoree in your organization's communications materials.

How to Nominate:
1. Send nominations as separate attachments (if doing more than one) to NPDafppiedmont@gmail.com.
2. Please use the information below regarding each award to shape the narrative of your
nomination. Please do not submit resumes. Treat this as if you were writing a grant narrative or funding proposal.
3. Narratives for each nomination should be 350 words or less.
4. Adhere to the guidelines for each award and organize your nomination along the lines of the criteria listed.
5. Try to address the nominee's current and past achievements as well as support they're giving to other organizations in the Upstate (not just yours).
6. Please provide as much detail as possible regarding your nominee's achievements and community-wide efforts.
7. Co-nominations are allowed and strongly encouraged.
8. Nominees must be able to attend the event on November 21, 2024.
9. Please include all contact information of the nominee and yourself.
10. If your nominee is chosen, you will be the primary contact for the NPD committee and
responsible for helping with promotional materials regarding the award recipient.
Outstanding Philanthropist- presented to an individual, couple or family with a record of
exceptional generosity and outstanding civic responsibility during the past 3 years. They also
encourage others to assume philanthropic leadership roles in the community. Describe and verify: Impact the nominee has achieved by contributing financial resources, time and effort engaged with organizations (service on boards, committees, personal giving, innovation, strategic planning, etc.) and engagement beyond a single organization. Demonstration of dynamic leadership resulting in others to engage in their own legacy of giving. Specific achievements, such as new programs or construction, launched through their leadership.
Outstanding Organizational Partner- a corporation, foundation, small business, giving circle or
association, of any size or mission, which is active in philanthropy in the Upstate community and
takes a leadership role toward community involvement. Narrative should include: Impact of direct gift support to the Upstate community through two or more nonprofits. Include the depth of support and breadth of agencies supported. Achievements accomplished through the organization's internal philanthropic efforts (employee contributions, volunteer service, etc.) Willingness to listen and respond to the needs of the nonprofit community and provide meaningful impact.
Outstanding Volunteer- an individual who demonstrates an exceptional passion for volunteerism
and generosity of their time to specific organization(s) or cause(s)- total hours contributed and
breadth of organizations supported with time will be considered. Include how the nominee: Encourages and motivates others to give of their time to benefit the community. Leads in a specific organization's efforts- include the extent of time and depth of effort contributed to the organization and the community as a whole. Participation in other nonprofit organizations or causes.
Outstanding Fundraising Professional- honors an outstanding individual fundraising professional
who works directly for a nonprofit organization and practices their profession in an exemplary manner (must be a current AFP member). Describe the: Length of tenure as a fundraising professional, including background, experience and impact of goals achieved through their fundraising efforts. Demonstration of leadership that is effective, persuasive, creative, collaborative and stimulating. Summary of service and contributions to other organizations, including AFP, and how they create, scale and sustain meaningful, missional work.
Spirit of Philanthropy (lifetime achievement award)- an individual or couple demonstrating a long
history of exceptional philanthropic leadership; very active in the Upstate community, historical
philanthropic support and leadership; inspires and motivates others to lead and engage in their
own legacy of giving; sets the example for others. Describe the following in your nomination: Demonstration of long-standing direct support to the Upstate community including examples that solve organizational and community challenges. Historical summary of philanthropic service and achievements. Demonstration of dynamic leadership that leverages innovative approaches and/or strategies to support philanthropic needs in the Upstate and the way they bring the community's needs to the public. Encouragement and motivation given to others to take a leadership role through philanthropy and community involvement.
